The new costumes for John and Sarah, the parents in Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress, are now on display at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The outfits debuted at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in August and have moved into Walt Disney Presents, along with scene models and concept art for the reimagined Magic Kingdom attraction. Carousel of Progress is expected to reopen in late spring 2027.

The attraction reopens in late spring 2027 at Magic Kingdom.
The New Costumes For John And Sarah
The costumes were designed for the new time periods in the show. John wears a mustard yellow cardigan over a white sweater, and Sarah wears a gold wrap-style outfit over a turquoise top.
According to the placard next to them, John’s costume for the opening act, set in 1969, is inspired by how he looked in the finale of the original show at the 1964-65 New York World’s Fair. Costumes for the final act, set in the distant future, pair futuristic materials with classic shapes.
Scene Models And Concept Art
Two scale models preview the new sets. One is a kitchen with orange cabinets and a rounded white refrigerator, and the other is a sunken living room with curved yellow seating and a stone fireplace. Concept art of the futuristic finale hangs nearby.
What Is Changing In The Show
Walt Disney Imagineering is moving every scene to a new time period. The new show opens in the summer of 1969 with the family watching the moon landing, moves to Halloween night 1985, rings in the year 2000 on New Year’s Eve 1999 and closes in a future home with a robot helper and space travel. The 1985 scene puts Sarah at center stage for the first time.
Jamie Lee Curtis and Bryan Cranston will voice the mother and father, and the show will also include an Audio-Animatronics figure of Walt Disney himself.
