Indiana Jones Adventure Queue Rope Goes Slack A Day After Reopening

Indiana Jones Adventure at Disneyland Park

One of the Indiana Jones Adventure queue’s little jokes stopped working a day after the ride came back. The rope guests pull in the queue at Disneyland has lost all of its tension and no longer does anything, we found on Saturday, October 24.

The rope sits next to a dark wooden sign that reads “Caution, Do Not Pull Rope! Handling Fragile Artifacts,” which is exactly why guests reach for it. In our short video, a hand grabs the rope beside a big stone block and it just gives, hanging loose.

Fresh Off A Six-Week Refurbishment

The timing stands out because Indiana Jones Adventure only just reopened. The ride came back on Friday, October 23, after a six-week refurbishment that swapped the hydraulic doors that open onto Mara for electric ones, added bigger storage pouches and rebuilt the Indiana Jones Audio-Animatronics figures. A separate fix for how vehicles stop at load and unload has been in place since May. We covered the full list when Indiana Jones Adventure reopened at Disneyland.

Those fixes were aimed at the ride itself. Together, the changes let Indiana Jones Adventure carry about 125 more guests per hour, or roughly 1,000 more a day, an Attractions Engineering Services manager told the Los Angeles Times. The ride usually gets a refurbishment every year because of its size and the number of moving show elements it has.

We also heard a few sound effects in the queue we couldn’t place. We’re usually through that stretch too fast to say whether they’re new, so we’re not calling them a change just yet.

What Guests Should Know

Indiana Jones Adventure, which opened in 1995, sends guests through the Temple of the Forbidden Eye, past booby traps and carvings that tell the story of Mara, a deity who promises great treasure, and vengeance on anyone foolish enough to gaze into its eyes. Riders must be at least 46 inches tall, according to the official Indiana Jones Adventure page, and the ride offers Lightning Lane entry.

If you’re in the queue this week and spot the sign, go ahead and give the rope a tug, just don’t expect much back. Disney hasn’t said when, or whether, the rope will be repaired.
