Spider-Man: Brand New Day just posted the biggest single-day box office total in history.
The film earned an estimated $168 million on its opening day from 4,487 North American theaters. That number includes Thursday previews and easily tops the previous record of $157 million set by Avengers: Endgame in 2019.
Variety reported the figure on Saturday morning. Sony is currently projecting a three-day weekend around $325 million. Some rival studios are tracking the film as high as $358 million. If it reaches the higher range, Brand New Day would also take the all-time domestic opening weekend record from Endgame.
Strong Early Indicators
The movie already set the all-time preview record with $72 million on Thursday night. That mark came without any IMAX screens in the mix. Audience reaction has been strong as well. The film holds a 4.2 average on Letterboxd, the highest score for any MCU title or live-action Spider-Man movie to date.
Overseas performance is also solid. The film has already crossed $304 million worldwide in its early run and passed ₹100 crore (about $10.5 million) in India within two days of release.
Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker in a story that continues after the events of previous films. Supporting cast includes Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Tramell Tillman. Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal have been promoting the film heavily in the days leading up to release, as detailed in their recent press tour comments.
What The Numbers Mean
This result continues the pattern of Spider-Man films delivering at the box office even in a crowded marketplace. No Way Home previously held strong opening numbers, and Brand New Day has now pushed the single-day bar higher than any film before it.
Final weekend numbers will firm up over the next two days. Studios typically report more precise figures on Monday. For now the $168 million opening day stands as the clear headline.
