EPCOT Solar Trash Cans Get Patriotic Theming At American Adventure

New solar-powered smart trash and recycling cans have debuted with full patriotic theming inside The American Adventure pavilion at EPCOT.

The bins feature a red, white, and blue crest that includes three stars, stripes, and the number 76 inside a shield. Both the trash and recycling units now carry the complete crest. Earlier versions of the solar cans used the crest only on the trash side and a plain recycle icon on the other.

Each pair of cans is solar powered. A panel sits beneath a clear lid on top of the unit and charges an internal battery. The system is designed to keep the compactors working even on cloudy days. Guests can open the bins by pulling a recessed handle above the labeled slot or by stepping on a foot pedal for hands-free use. Sensors notify custodial Cast Members when a bin is full and needs attention.

Design And Placement Changes

The new cans are taller and more box-shaped than the rounded low-profile units they replace. They have been installed throughout The American Adventure pavilion and along nearby walkways around World Showcase Lagoon. The consistent crest on both trash and recycling sides keeps the pavilion’s visual language intact while introducing the newer technology.

This installation is part of a wider rollout of solar-powered smart bins across Walt Disney World. The program began in World Showcase and is expanding to other areas of the resort, including Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, the water parks, and Disney Springs.

Blog Mickey first documented the themed cans in The American Adventure on August 1 and provided photos of the new design in place. The update replaces older solar bins that had already been operating in the pavilion with a version that better matches the surrounding theming.

The change is a small but visible example of how Disney is combining sustainability upgrades with the detailed design standards expected in the parks.
