The Incredibles 3 Hands The Story To Violet And Dash In Its First Look At D23

The Parr kids are running the next Incredibles movie, and Pete Docter said so on stage at D23. We filmed the first look.

Pixar’s chief creative officer laid out the premise of The Incredibles 3 during the Disney Entertainment Showcase on Friday night, and the shape of it is a generational handoff rather than another Bob and Helen story. The film arrives on June 16, 2028.

Violet And Dash Are Sneaking Out

Docter told the arena that Violet and Dash want to prove they are ready to be real Supers, and that their parents are not quite convinced. So the two of them have started slipping out at night to protect the city on their own, which does not go over well at home. Making it harder, the family is struggling to contain Jack-Jack.

Director Peter Sohn added a piece of world-building that reframes the whole setup: supers are now legal, following the events of the last film. The Parrs are no longer hiding, which is exactly why two teenagers slipping out at night becomes a family argument rather than a criminal one.

That is a clean inversion of the first two films. The Incredibles was about parents hiding what they are from their kids, and Incredibles 2 handed Helen the public-facing job while Bob stayed home with the baby. This one puts the children in the field and the parents in the position of trying to hold them back.

Who Is Making It

Brad Bird wrote and directed both previous films. Sohn, who made Elemental and The Good Dinosaur and who worked on the original Incredibles, took the chair in June 2025, with Bird staying attached as writer and executive producer. Bird’s schedule was the reason, and he and Docter picked Sohn themselves.

The project was formally announced at D23 in 2024, which makes this the first substantive story detail the studio has released in two years, and the first look at any footage. Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter and Samuel L. Jackson are all expected back, and Hunter has said voice recording was already underway earlier this year.

Where It Sits On The Pixar Slate

The Incredibles 3 is now one of four Pixar titles with public dates or windows. Gatto, a story about a black cat in Venice shunned by locals over superstition, arrives March 5, 2027 and got a fuller trailer at the showcase. Coco 2 follows in November 2029, with Miguel aged into a teenager returning to the Land of the Dead alongside Ernesto, and Lee Unkrich back directing. And Ghost Market, the new original Pixar revealed on Friday, is set for 2028.

That is a heavier slate than Pixar has carried into a D23 in some time, and notably it is three sequels against one original.

Still Unanswered

No villain was named and no footage has been released publicly. The first two films arrived fourteen years apart, so a ten year gap after Incredibles 2 counts as brisk by this franchise’s standards, and June 2028 puts the Parrs into a summer that is already filling up.
