Steel for a multi-story backstage building is climbing at Magic Kingdom, in the service area behind Pirates of the Caribbean, and Disney has not said what it will be used for. Aerial photos posted Sunday show an open steel frame going up beside a backstage canal, with a tall concrete core rising through it.

The site sits west of Adventureland, squeezed into a narrow backstage corridor between a green parade warehouse and the service canal that runs along that edge of the park. That canal is where Disney stages the barges for the Electrical Water Pageant. The photographer behind the aerials, bioreconstruct, describes the new structure as an office building.
There are no walls or roof yet, and crews are working inside the grid from lifts, still building out the upper part of the structure. Next to it, a laydown yard stretches south toward the tree line with ductwork, precast panels and other staged materials, along with cranes and work trucks.
What The Records Call It
The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, which handles permitting for Walt Disney World, lists the site in its records as “MK Park 3 Support Building.” Park 3 covers Adventureland, Frontierland and the west side of Magic Kingdom.
The solid, windowless concrete core is shaped like an elevator shaft. The site was previously used by Disney Performing Arts, and it is not yet known whether that use will continue once the new building is finished.
Close To The New Lands, But Not Part Of Them
Park 3 is also the part of Magic Kingdom where Piston Peak National Park and Villains Land are under construction. The new building is not on either site, and Disney has not tied it to either project, though a support building in that part of the park could end up serving both once they open.
