Walt Disney World has expanded its Airport Luggage Transfer service to include American Airlines and United Airlines as of May 19, 2026, marking a significant milestone for the convenience program that helps guests skip baggage claim and streamline their vacation experience.
Major Expansion for Growing Service
The service, which previously operated exclusively with Southwest Airlines, now covers three major carriers for guests staying at Disney’s five Value Resort properties. The expansion allows travelers flying American or United on eligible domestic flights to have their checked luggage transferred directly between Orlando International Airport and their Disney hotel, eliminating the stress of waiting at baggage claim upon arrival or rushing through check-in lines at departure.
Operated by third-party provider BagCheck, the Airport Luggage Transfer service delivers bags to resort hotels within approximately four hours of arrival. For departures, guests can drop off their luggage at their Value Resort hotel at least four hours before their flight and proceed directly to airport security. The five participating resorts include Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Art of Animation Resort, All-Star Movies, All-Star Sports, and All-Star Music.
What This Means for Disney Fans
For longtime Disney visitors, the expansion represents a welcome return to the convenience once offered through the discontinued Magical Express and Resort Airline Check-In services, which were eliminated in early 2022. While the current program remains limited to Value Resorts, industry analysts suggest Disney may eventually expand to Moderate and Deluxe properties if guest demand continues rising.
The addition of American and United Airlines significantly broadens access to the service, as these carriers represent two of the largest airlines operating at Orlando International Airport. Previously, only Southwest passengers could take advantage of the program, which launched as a pilot in spring 2025 for departures only before expanding to include arrivals in November 2025.
Guests must register for the arrival service between 30 days and one day prior to their departure flight through Disney’s website or BagCheck’s registration portal. Luggage tags will be mailed to participants who register early enough. The service is free, though standard airline baggage fees still apply. Disney officials have indicated they remain committed to growing the program and adding more conveniences for guests over time, suggesting further airline and resort expansions may be on the horizon.
Competitive Advantage in Crowded Market
The Airport Luggage Transfer expansion comes as Orlando’s hospitality market grows increasingly competitive, with major hotel brands and entertainment resorts vying for travelers seeking convenience and premium experiences. By offering practical perks like luggage transfer, Disney reinforces the unique benefits of staying at an official Disney resort hotel. Travel advisors note that such conveniences often influence booking decisions, particularly for families traveling with children who appreciate anything that reduces vacation stress and accelerates the transition into vacation mode.
