Avengers Endgame: Encore opened at No. 1 at the UK and Ireland box office this past weekend, September 25-27, with £4.1 million (about $5.5 million). Disney said its £4.12 million estimate is the biggest opening ever for a re-release in the UK and Ireland. The studio estimates the UK is one of more than two dozen markets where the film set a re-release opening record, along with Mexico and Brazil.
The Marvel Studios re-release played at 537 cinemas for a £7,678 (about $10,200) location average. It is an extended version of the 2019 film Avengers: Endgame with four extra scenes.
Sony’s Resident Evil, No. 1 the previous weekend, finished second with £2.2 million (about $3 million), a 47% drop in its second weekend. The top five titles took £10.2 million (about $13.6 million), up 22% from the previous weekend and the first time the top five has cleared £10 million since the August 21-23 weekend.
An $86 Million Global Opening
The UK and Ireland weekend was part of an $86 million global opening for Avengers Endgame: Encore, which finished No. 1 worldwide with $26 million from North America and $60 million from international markets. Disney estimates that is the second highest global debut of all time for a re-release. IMAX screens took $13.7 million of that total.
“The success of the re-release reiterates that there’s a massive fanbase for this franchise, and the fact that it’s a 7-year-old movie on Disney+, it’s an incredible opening,” Andrew Cripps, Disney’s global head of distribution, said.
Avengers: Endgame earned £88.7 million (about $118 million) at the UK and Ireland box office on its original 2019 release. It ranks as the ninth highest grossing film of all time in the territory. The Encore weekend lifted the film’s worldwide total to $2.885 billion, No. 2 on the all-time global box office list.
A First Look At Avengers: Doomsday
The Avengers Endgame: Encore presentation includes an exclusive look at Avengers: Doomsday, and audiences who see the re-release on IMAX and Infinity Vision-certified screens get an additional sneak peek at the film. Infinity Vision is a new certification for Premium Large Format cinemas.
Avengers: Doomsday opens in UK cinemas on Wednesday, December 16, 2026, two days before its December 18 release in the United States. Anthony and Joe Russo direct the film, which brings Robert Downey Jr. back to Marvel in the new role of Doctor Doom.
