The cast of Abbott Elementary was already at work inside Disneyland on Tuesday. A photo posted October 6 by the fan account @themeparkcelebs shows the ABC comedy filming at the foot of Sleeping Beauty Castle, with a camera operator shooting the scene as park guests walked past.
According to the post, Quinta Brunson, Tyler James Williams, Lisa Ann Walter, Chris Perfetti, Sheryl Lee Ralph and Janelle James were all on hand for the shoot. The sighting came the same day word got out that the show will film its 100th episode inside the park this month.
Filming In Front Of Sleeping Beauty Castle
No barricades are visible in the photo. The camera is set up in the open walkway in front of the drawbridge in full daylight, with regular guests a few feet away and several of them turning to watch. Sleeping Beauty Castle is the entrance to Fantasyland at the end of Main Street, U.S.A., and the drawbridge is the main way through it.
Neither ABC nor Disneyland has said how many days the cast and crew will be in the park or which other areas they plan to use. Guests visiting over the next few weeks could still cross paths with the production.
Not The First ABC Sitcom To Shoot Here
ABC comedies have filmed inside Disneyland before. Modern Family filmed its Disneyland episode in the park over three days starting February 29, 2012, the same day as the park’s 24-hour Leap Day event, with the cast and crew working in New Orleans Square, in Frontierland near the Golden Horseshoe and at the park entrance by the Mickey floral planter. That episode aired that May. Disney has also brought The Goldbergs and George Lopez to the park to film episodes.
For Abbott Elementary, the park is the latest stop in a run of location shoots that has taken the cast to the Please Touch Museum in Philadelphia, a live Phillies game at Citizens Bank Park and a shopping mall in Woodland Hills over the last two seasons.
What We Know About The Disneyland Episode
The Disneyland episode is reportedly the series’ 100th, and it is expected to air in December as the Season 6 fall finale. Season 5 ended with 93 episodes, which makes the seventh episode of the new season the milestone one. The plot is still under wraps, including whether the trip involves Abbott’s students or just the staff.
Fans won’t have to wait long for new episodes in the meantime. Season 6 premieres on ABC on Wednesday, October 7, at 8:30 p.m. ET and 5:30 p.m. PT, with episodes streaming the next day on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+. The new season finds Gregory juggling assistant principal duties alongside his classroom and Melissa serving as the teachers’ union representative.
Brunson created the series and stars as Janine Teagues, alongside Williams as Gregory Eddie, James as Ava Coleman, Ralph as Barbara Howard, Walter as Melissa Schemmenti, Perfetti as Jacob Hill and William Stanford Davis as Mr. Johnson. The show is produced by Warner Bros. Television and 20th Television.
