If you have been holding out hope for a Ratatouille sequel, Brad Bird has some news for you. The director of the beloved 2007 Pixar film has made clear that Ratatouille 2 is not happening, shutting down any notion that Remy the rat will be returning to the kitchen in a follow-up film anytime soon.
Brad Bird Closes the Door on Ratatouille 2
In a new interview with Collider, Bird was asked about the possibility of a Ratatouille sequel and was refreshingly direct in his response. He revealed that Pixar has made what he described as little feints in his direction over the years, half-joking inquiries about whether he would be interested in returning to the world of Remy and Gusteau’s restaurant. His answer each time has been no. Bird stated plainly that the story was told completely the first time, and he has no interest in revisiting it.
It is a position that reflects Bird’s long-held artistic philosophy. He has always been protective of his creative work and resistant to the idea of sequels for their own sake, a stance that has made him something of a rarity in the modern Hollywood landscape where beloved IP is routinely mined for follow-ups regardless of whether the original story demands it. Notably, Bird has said he remains open to another Incredibles film, underscoring that his resistance is specific to stories he considers already complete rather than sequels in general.
A Beloved Pixar Classic That Stands Alone
Ratatouille remains one of the most acclaimed films in Pixar’s catalog, widely regarded as a masterclass in storytelling, animation, and the expression of genuine artistic passion. The film won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and has only grown in reputation in the nearly two decades since its release.
While fans may be disappointed to hear that a sequel is definitively off the table from Bird’s perspective, there is something to be said for an artist who refuses to compromise a perfect thing. Ratatouille ended exactly where it needed to, and Brad Bird clearly intends to keep it that way. For more Pixar news, check out our coverage of the new Loving Dory theatrical short.
