Spider-Man: Brand New Day is heading for a second weekend of roughly $143 million, a number that would hand it the biggest ten day domestic start in box office history. Sony issued that estimate Saturday morning after a $43 million Friday, according to The Hollywood Reporter, and it would put the film’s North American total at $653 million by Sunday night.
This is also the first weekend the film has spent on IMAX screens. After setting the preview, opening day, and opening weekend records on ordinary auditoriums while The Odyssey held the format exclusively, Brand New Day finally expanded onto the large format this week, and the boost showed up immediately.
Third Best Second Weekend Ever
Deadline had projected a $135 million to $140 million range on Friday afternoon before the studio’s Saturday figure pushed past it. Wherever inside that band the weekend lands, only two second frames in domestic history are bigger: Star Wars: The Force Awakens at $149.2 million and Avengers: Endgame at $147.3 million. Avengers: Infinity War sits well behind at $114.7 million.
The weekend decline works out to roughly 60 percent, and the scarier looking number, a 76 percent Friday-to-Friday drop, mostly reflects how inflated the record $169.8 million opening day was by previews. Playing in 4,487 North American theaters, the film becomes just the eighth title ever to clear $100 million in a second weekend and the first Sony release to do it, blowing past the studio’s previous best sophomore frame, the $84.5 million of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Premium large format screens and the newly added IMAX runs are driving 33 percent of the weekend, per Deadline.
Running Five Percent Ahead Of Endgame
Brand New Day entered the weekend with $510 million domestically and $706.3 million internationally, for a worldwide total of $1.216 billion. Its $932 million global opening stands as the second biggest ever behind Endgame’s $1.22 billion, and it roughly doubled the $425 million to $465 million worldwide debut Sony itself had projected before release. At $650 million and change through ten days, the film would be tracking about five percent ahead of Endgame at the same point in its run, and Endgame finished its initial domestic release at $858.3 million. The picture already took the crown as 2026’s highest grossing release inside its first week, a title Toy Story 5 needed seven weeks to build.
The rest of the chart is running far behind. The Odyssey takes second place again with an estimated $30 million or so in its fourth weekend, having just crossed $1 billion worldwide, while the new romantic comedy One Night Only opens to roughly $6 million. Studio estimates arrive Sunday morning, with final actuals following Monday, and the only real question left is how far past $143 million the weekend can reach.
