Walt Disney World has cut the pause from the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind pre-show at EPCOT that guests had been using to shout answers at the screen. Terry Crews’ Centurion Tal Marik still poses the question, “Does anyone know what they call themselves?” Now a quick glitch effect hits the moment he finishes, and the video skips ahead before anyone in the room can call out a reply. The new version was running by Saturday, October 3.

What Changed In The Cosmic Rewind Pre-Show
The queue is framed as a visit to the Wonders of Xandar pavilion, beginning in the Galaxarium, a planetarium-style exhibit that compares Xandar’s galaxy with ours, and near the end of the tour things go wrong and guests are pulled in to help the Guardians. Marik’s video plays in the pre-show room just ahead of the Phase Chamber and its teleportation effect. In the scene, he cannot settle on a name for the people of EPCOT. He tries “EPCOT-ers,” then “EPCOT-ians,” and finally asks the audience.
The old cut held on Marik for a beat after he asked it, plenty of guests took the silence as their cue, and “alcoholics” became one of the most common shouted answers. None of the dialogue was rewritten. Only the timing changed, with the glitch covering the cut.
Disney has not said why it made the edit. Scott Gustin called it a good change, writing that it removes “the opportunity for guests to answer the question and inevitably yell something unfunny.”

Who Is Centurion Tal Marik?
Disney Parks introduced Crews in the role on April 25, 2022, describing Marik as the commander of the Starcharter and a close advisor to Nova Prime. In the attraction’s story, it is Marik who calls on the Guardians for help. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind opened at EPCOT a month later, on May 27, 2022.
Cosmic Rewind is also one of the attractions open during Disney After Hours at EPCOT, which runs on 15 select nights from January 21 through August 19, 2027.
