The Tropical Americas archway at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is starting to look old, which is exactly the point. Crews have begun setting crumbling rockwork into the main entrance arch, giving the new structure a weathered look.

Tropical Americas is replacing DinoLand USA, and this archway will be the first thing guests walk under as they cross into Pueblo Esperanza from the Discovery Island bridge. The steel frame went up in early August, and by the start of October a dark mesh covered most of it.
Stones Added For An Aged Look
Now the detail work has started. Rubble-style stones sit in clusters across the archway’s gray surface, along its base, around the curve of the arch and up in the corners, according to new photos from BlogMickey.
It is a similar look to the one Disney already gave the land’s side entrance, where the scaffolding came off to reveal cracked plaster, exposed stonework and moss tucked into the seams. There, the sculpted concrete went on first and the weathered finish followed.
The job is not finished. Orange spray paint marks where crews plan to add more rockwork over the coming days, so expect the arch to keep changing.
It is a big step from where things stood earlier this month, when the archway first started to resemble its concept art.
Concrete Covers The Encanto Mountains
The rest of the land is moving too. BlogMickey’s photos also show the faux mountain range above the Antonio’s Fiesta de Encanto show building, which got its wire mesh outline in July, now partly covered in concrete. The upper peaks have a smoother gray finish, while a few peaks on the sides carry a rougher, sandier texture. Mesh marked with numbers is still visible in other spots.
Over at the Casita, workers are building out the house’s galvanized steel frame. Gabled roof trusses run along the top of the lower section, a curved arch sits low in the frame, and a tall braced tower of steel rises above the rest. The steel is still bare, but the rooflines and arch already read as a house.

Behind it, new mesh framing is shaping a huge rockwork wall that will cover the show building. Once it is finished, the Casita should look like it sits on a much larger hillside, with the building behind it hidden from view.
Tropical Americas will be home to the Encanto attraction and a new Indiana Jones adventure. Disney has said the land will open in 2027, though it has not announced an exact opening date.
