“Disney Celebrates America: The Pursuit of Happiness” is a two-hour ABC primetime special airing on Sunday, June 29. The special uses Disney Parks locations, including Main Street USA and Tomorrowland, as the backdrop for stories about American innovation, achievements, traditions, and historic firsts. Disney describes it as a coast-to-coast event where the parks and attractions serve as the portal through which America’s greatest stories are celebrated. A full entertainment lineup for the special has not yet been announced.
Walt Disney World’s America 250 Celebrations
Alongside the ABC special, Walt Disney World is rolling out a full slate of America 250 programming across the resort. Confirmed activations include patriotic lighting on Spaceship Earth at EPCOT, Voices of Liberty performances, the return of the Electrical Water Pageant, Main Street USA patriotic decor, special character experiences, and limited-time food offerings across the resort.
The Electrical Water Pageant is a particularly meaningful addition. The beloved lagoon parade has been a Walt Disney World institution since 1971 and features illuminated floats depicting sea creatures and patriotic imagery set to American music. Seeing it tied to the 250th anniversary feels like exactly the right move.
