Disney’s Live-Action Tangled Wraps Filming Ahead Of Its March 2028 Release

Rapunzel, Flynn Rider and Maximus in Disney's animated Tangled

Disney’s live-action Tangled has wrapped filming. The remake, which began shooting in Spain this summer, is now headed into post-production ahead of its March 31, 2028 release in theaters, with Teagan Croft as Rapunzel, Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider and Kathryn Hahn as Mother Gothel.

Drew Smith shared the news Friday morning. With roughly 17 months between the end of filming and opening day, the production has a long runway for editing, music and visual effects on a story where Rapunzel’s magic hair does a lot of the heavy lifting.

Who Is In The Live-Action Tangled

Disney cast Croft, the Australian actress, as Rapunzel at the start of the year, with Manheim, best known from Disney Channel’s Zombies films, as Flynn Rider, the cocky outlaw who helps Rapunzel escape her tower. In the 2010 animated film, those roles were voiced by Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi. Hahn plays Gothel, and Diego Luna joins the cast in a new role that Disney has not described.

Michael Gracey, who directed The Greatest Showman and Better Man, is behind the camera, and like the original, the film will lean heavily on music. Kristin Burr, whose Disney credits include Cruella and Freakier Friday, is producing from a script by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and Michael Montemayor.

What Fans Have Seen So Far

Disney offered its first look at the film at D23 in August. The clip opened on Croft from behind, her long blonde hair trailing across cobblestone streets, before cutting to Hahn as Gothel. Hahn then took the stage herself and joked that Gothel “may be a little overprotective, but that’s because she cares so much,” calling her “the best kind of villain, the kind who thinks she’s actually a hero.” Croft and Manheim sent a video message in costume from the set in Spain, and the March 31, 2028 release date was announced at the same presentation in Anaheim, where the first look had fans cheering.

The animated Tangled grossed more than $591 million worldwide and went on to spawn a Disney Channel series, so the remake arrives with plenty of fans already waiting. The story is also headed out to sea, where Tangled: The Musical is coming to the Disney Believe with new sets and effects.
