Famke Janssen is not holding back about how she feels about being left out of Avengers: Doomsday, and her comments are already generating conversation across Marvel fan communities.

The actress, who played Jean Grey across multiple Fox-era X-Men films, has spoken out about being excluded from Avengers: Doomsday, saying she believes Marvel Studios made the wrong call. “I think they made a mistake, but hey, who am I? I’m just a little me who thinks that,” Janssen told Deadline.
Why the Exclusion Stands Out
The comment lands with real weight given the context. Avengers: Doomsday is bringing back a significant number of Fox-era X-Men actors alongside the MCU’s current roster. Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier, Ian McKellen’s Magneto, and James Marsden’s Cyclops are all confirmed to return, and several other mutants from the original film series have been announced or rumored. Jean Grey, one of the most powerful and narratively significant characters in X-Men history, is conspicuously absent from that reunion.
Jean Grey’s Complicated History on Film
Jean’s story across the Fox films was always complicated. She was killed in X2, resurrected as the Phoenix in X-Men: The Last Stand, and ultimately destroyed by Wolverine in what remains one of the more divisive moments in the franchise’s history. Dark Phoenix in 2019 attempted a reboot of that arc with Sophie Turner, to a much colder reception. A proper Jean Grey return in a multiversal context could have been a redemptive moment for the character on the big screen.
What Comes Next
Whether Marvel reconsiders for future projects remains to be seen. The MCU’s new mutant era is still in its early stages, and the door for Janssen has not been permanently closed, at least not officially.
