A fire burned through a storage building just across the road from Disneyland Paris on Monday evening, September 21, sending a thick column of black smoke over the resort while both theme parks were still open. Firefighters brought it under control later that night, and no one was hurt.
The fire broke out around 8 p.m. local time (2 p.m. Eastern, 11 a.m. Pacific) in a 1,600-square-meter, roughly 17,200-square-foot, concrete-and-metal building in Chessy used to store computer equipment, the Seine-et-Marne fire and rescue service told Le Parisien. It spread through the ground floor and the first floor and broke through the roof. 85 firefighters and about 30 vehicles were sent to the scene.
DLP Report, which covers Disneyland Paris daily from inside the parks, posted photos of the smoke from the resort at 8:36 p.m., showing the dark plume hanging over the entrance to Disneyland Park at dusk.

Where The Fire Was
At 8:58 p.m., an update placed the fire at a storage facility north of Disneyland Park, across the road from the resort and outside the enclosure that takes in both the parks and the backstage areas where cast members work.

Disneyland Paris sits mostly in Chessy, a town in the Seine-et-Marne department about 20 miles east of central Paris, and the burning building was an industrial site in the same town, not part of the resort.
The Parks Were Still Open
Disneyland Park and Disney Adventure World were both scheduled to run from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. that Monday, according to DLP Report’s daily schedule, so guests were still inside both parks when the smoke appeared. Authorities advised people nearby to keep their doors and windows closed while crews worked, and no evacuation of the resort was reported.
The Resort Was Not Damaged
After several hours, firefighters put out the main fire. Reports the next day confirmed that the resort itself was not touched, and the cause of the fire is still unknown. The company that uses the building has not been named, and Disneyland Paris has not commented publicly.
