Kathryn Newton is heading to Hulu. The Marvel actress has been cast in the lead role of Durango, a new drama pilot at Hulu from writer Eliza Clark, 20th Television, and Media Res. Deadline broke the news on June 12, 2026.
What Durango Is About
Newton will play Bunny, described as beguiling, wild, and deeply guarded. Someone who has always kept moving, Bunny’s latest stop is the town of Durango, where she takes a job as a waitress at a greasy-spoon diner. When she crosses paths with Mikey, a local snowboarding legend played by Cooper Hoffman, the two end up in the wrong place at the wrong time and the secrets she has spent years burying begin to surface.
The show follows Bunny and Mikey as they ride what the logline describes as an avalanche of bad decisions, falling in love while running from cops, criminals, and Mikey’s wife in pursuit of their own version of the American dream.
Eliza Clark executive produces alongside Media Res’ Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer. 20th Television, the Disney-owned studio behind hits like The Bear and Only Murders in the Building, is producing.
A Busy Year for Kathryn Newton
Newton’s casting comes at a particularly high-profile moment in her career. She recently starred in Searchlight’s thriller sequel Ready or Not 2, and is currently filming Hot Year, the feature directorial debut from Roxy Sophie Sorkin. She is also confirmed to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, which opens in theaters in December 2026.
Newton is best known to Marvel fans for playing Cassie Lang opposite Paul Rudd in the Ant-Man franchise, a role she will reprise in Avengers: Doomsday. She has also become a modern horror mainstay with roles in Abigail, Freaky, and Lisa Frankenstein, and appeared opposite Reese Witherspoon in HBO’s Big Little Lies.
The Disney and Hulu Connection
Durango lands at the intersection of two Disney-owned properties. Hulu is majority-owned by The Walt Disney Company, which completed its full acquisition of the streamer in 2023. 20th Television, the producing studio on the pilot, is part of 20th Century Studios, also owned by Disney. The pairing of those two entities has already produced some of the most acclaimed television of recent years.
