Kevin Feige is pulling back the curtain on Marvel Studios’ long term plans. In a wide-ranging new interview published this week on Weibo during the Spider-Man: Brand New Day press tour, the Marvel Studios president confirmed that Miles Morales is destined for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
A Destiny For Live-Action Spider-Man
“I think live-action Spider-Man movies have this destiny: to add Miles at some point after the Spider-Verse series is completed,” Feige said. That timeline points beyond Sony’s animated Beyond the Spider-Verse, which will conclude the acclaimed trilogy that introduced Miles to moviegoers, before the character swings into live action alongside Tom Holland’s Peter Parker or on his own.
Secret Wars Inspiration And A December Move
Feige also confirmed that the next two Avengers films draw from the “Time Runs Out” and “Secret Wars” comic storylines. “What we really want to do is two things: first, to bring closure to some storylines that began before Iron Man, including the original X-Men characters. Second, at the same time, to set the stage for the future,” he explained. He acknowledged the film’s shift off its original May date as well, saying the team simply could not finish Avengers: Doomsday in time, moving it to December where it now faces a packed holiday corridor. Anticipation clearly has not suffered, with the film already posting record-setting first day pre-sales.
Asked directly whether Damson Idris is playing the new Black Panther, Feige only laughed and replied “Not today,” keeping one more secret in his pocket ahead of Marvel’s Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday.
