Man Found Dead Outside Disneyland Resort Sign On Katella, Anaheim Police See No Foul Play

A 65-year-old man was found dead Sunday afternoon on the sidewalk outside the Disneyland Resort, and Anaheim police say they do not suspect foul play.

Officers and Anaheim Fire and Rescue were called to the edge of the resort property around 1:40 p.m. on October 25, near the resort’s south entrance along Katella Avenue. Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene. His name has not been released.

Police said the man was known to be homeless and that his death appeared to be from natural causes. Anaheim Police Sgt. Eric Anderson said there was no indication of foul play.

Found Beneath The Disneyland Resort Sign On Katella

The man was found directly beneath the large arched blue Disneyland Resort sign on the Katella Avenue side of the property, at the 800 block of West Katella. Officers taped off a stretch of the sidewalk while they documented the scene, and pedestrians were routed around the closed section for part of the afternoon.

It was not immediately clear whether the man died on Disneyland property or on the public sidewalk next to it. The Katella side of the resort sits across from the Anaheim Convention Center and is a common walking route for guests staying at hotels south of the parks.

Parks Were Not Affected

Neither Disneyland Park nor Disney California Adventure was affected. Both parks remained open, and the police activity stayed on the sidewalk at the edge of the property. The Orange County scanner account OC Scanner was first to flag the call on X, and its post had drawn more than 400,000 views by Sunday night.

Sunday’s call is the second time this month that Anaheim police have shut down part of the area around the resort. Earlier in October, a suspicious device found near the Harbor East shuttle area closed the entire Esplanade between Harbor Boulevard and Downtown Disney for more than two hours, sending guests out through backstage routes. The Orange County Sheriff’s bomb squad found no explosives, and that incident also ended without any threat to the parks.

What We Know So Far

Police have confirmed the man’s age, that he was pronounced dead at the scene, that he was known to be homeless, and that nothing at the scene pointed to foul play. What has not been released is his identity, an official cause of death, or exactly how long the sidewalk stayed closed. In Anaheim, a formal cause of death in a case like this comes from the Orange County Sheriff-Coroner, and that process often takes weeks.

Nothing about Sunday’s call affects park operations. The closure was limited to a stretch of public sidewalk along Katella Avenue, and both parks ran as normal while police worked the scene.

Police have not said whether they will release further details once the investigation is complete.
