Marvel’s Blade Video Game Is Still Happening, Arkane Studios Praised By Todd Howard

Marvel’s Blade video game is alive and moving forward, at least as of a few weeks ago. Bethesda executive producer Todd Howard offered a reassuring update on the long-quiet project in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, confirming he recently saw footage and came away impressed with what Arkane Lyon is building.

“I’m not at liberty to say when we’ll see more, but I saw some stuff just yesterday and the folks at Arkane Studios are doing a really, really great job,” Howard said. Notably, that visit took place on May 21, before the June 2026 Xbox Games Showcase and before reports of impending Xbox studio layoffs began circulating, so the update reflects the project’s status as of last month rather than right now. The game was also notably absent from the showcase, which had some fans worried about its status. Arkane’s own concept artist, Jean-Luc Monnet, has since responded to the concern on social media with a simple message: let us cook.

What We Know About the Game

Marvel’s Blade was announced at The Game Awards in December 2023 with a cinematic trailer. The game is a single-player, story-driven third-person action adventure set in Paris, following Eric Brooks, the legendary Daywalker, as he navigates the world between the living and the undead. Arkane Lyon, the French studio behind Dishonored and Deathloop, is developing the title, with Bethesda publishing.

Arkane Lyon has a strong pedigree for exactly this kind of game. Dishonored established them as masters of stylish, systems-driven action in atmospheric settings, and Deathloop pushed that further with its time-loop structure. A vampire hunter stalking the streets of Paris feels like a natural fit for the studio’s strengths.

A Complicated Road

The Blade project has had a complicated backdrop. Arkane has faced recurring closure rumors amid broader Xbox studio restructuring, with Microsoft’s plans expected to become clearer following the end of its fiscal year in July, and the Blade film adaptation that had been in development at Marvel Studios for years has remained in limbo. Howard’s comments address at least the game side of that uncertainty, signaling that as of last month, Bethesda and Marvel Games remained behind the project.

No release window has been announced. Given that the game was only revealed in late 2023 and has been in full production likely since 2024, a realistic release window is probably 2027 or later. For now, Howard’s update is the clearest sign yet that the wait will be worth it. For more Marvel coverage, see our article on everything we know about Avengers: Doomsday.
