The Wait Is Almost Over
Good news for buccaneers. Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland has an official reopening date, and the end of this extended closure is finally in sight. The classic attraction is set to welcome guests back through its bayou once more starting June 26. The ride has been closed since May 4 for a refurbishment lasting roughly eight weeks, with the neighboring Blue Bayou Restaurant closing at the same time before reopening earlier in a modified capacity.
An Icon of Disneyland History
Pirates of the Caribbean is one of Disneyland’s most iconic and beloved attractions, having first set sail in 1967 as the last ride Walt Disney personally oversaw before his passing. The attraction has been a cornerstone of New Orleans Square for nearly six decades, taking guests on a swashbuckling journey through pirate raids, treasure hoards, and one very famous refrain that tends to get stuck in your head for days. The Disneyland original is the largest and most elaborate version of the ride found at any Disney park worldwide.
According to Mickey Visit, Disneyland shared that the refurbishment focused on upkeeping and enhancing the ride’s rockwork and lighting, as well as the animation of the Audio-Animatronics figures. Extended closures on a classic like Pirates are never welcome news for fans, but they are often a sign that something good is coming, and a reopening date means the end is finally in sight.
What to Expect When It Returns
Pirates of the Caribbean remains one of the most immersive and atmospheric rides in the entire Disney Parks portfolio. From the moment you board your boat in the bayou to the final climb out of the caves, the attraction delivers the kind of detailed, layered storytelling that only Disney does at this level. If you haven’t ridden in a while, a reopening is a great excuse to make a trip.
