ESPN Films’ Stephen Curry documentary, Portrait of an Artist: Stephen Curry, is leaving IMAX screens for home. The film starts streaming on Disney+ and the ESPN App on November 10, and ABC will air it on Sunday, November 22, at 1 p.m. ET.

The film opened exclusively in IMAX theaters on October 9, which made it hard to catch for anyone without an IMAX screen nearby. Now that it is getting harder to find in theaters, the streaming date gives fans a much easier way to see it, and the ABC airing puts it in front of a broadcast audience less than two weeks later, Laughing Place reports.

Building To Shot No. 4,000

The documentary follows Curry from his childhood, including home video from when he was a baby, through his early career and his rise to fame. It builds toward March 13, 2025, when the Golden State Warriors played the Sacramento Kings and Curry became the first player in NBA history to make 4,000 three-pointers.

That focus is where the title comes from. The film treats Curry’s shooting as a craft, and he frames it that way himself in the trailer. “For me it’s never just been a game,” Curry says. “It’s always felt more like an art.”

To push that idea, the film brings in voices from well outside basketball. Viola Davis, Rick Rubin, Patti Smith and Jon Batiste appear to talk about how audiences connect with great athletes and great artists. “Your purpose is not what you do,” Davis says in the trailer.

Who Made It

Gotham Chopra, co-founder of Religion of Sports, directed the film. It is produced and presented by IMAX, Religion of Sports and Curry’s own Unanimous Media, in association with NBA Entertainment, with ESPN Films behind it and Disney handling distribution. The production used 21 IMAX-certified cameras to capture it for the giant screen.

When the project was announced, a joint statement from Curry and Erick Peyton said the goal was “to tell a story that goes beyond breaking a record on the court.” Much of the film has the four-time NBA champion and two-time MVP reflecting on his career as he closes in on the milestone.

When And Where To Watch

Portrait of an Artist: Stephen Curry arrives on Disney+ and the ESPN App on Tuesday, November 10. ABC’s broadcast follows on Sunday, November 22, at 1 p.m. ET. If you missed it in IMAX, those are the two easiest chances to catch it this fall.

It is one of several ESPN documentaries headed to Disney’s streaming services, alongside the film on Michael Jackson’s 1993 Super Bowl halftime show, which we covered when that documentary was set for Hulu and ESPN in February.
