The Disco Yeti Is Finally Easy To See On Expedition Everest

Expedition Everest at Disney's Animal Kingdom

The Disco Yeti is finally easy to see. Expedition Everest at Disney’s Animal Kingdom now has a steady light washing over the Yeti scene, and riders racing past the famous figure can make out details that have hidden in the dark for years.

The strobe is still there. What’s new is a constant light layered on top of it, so the Yeti no longer just flickers in and out of view. BlogMickey spotted the change on a recent ride and says the figure itself still does not move.

What You Can See Now

With the room lit, the Yeti’s fur, claws and teeth stand out, along with the splintered beams staged around it as if the creature tore through the mountain. You can even pick out the mechanism behind the figure, the hardware that was built to thrust the Yeti forward at passing trains. Under the old strobe alone, that was close to impossible to spot.

It is brighter than before, but it is not a floodlit showroom. The scene still reads as dark, just no longer pitch black between flashes. That alone makes a real difference.

The Yeti is not fixed, though. It has been stuck in its strobe-lit “B-Mode” for more than a decade, standing still while trains blow past, and nothing about the new lighting changes that.

Where The Yeti Fix Stands

Disney confirmed at D23 in August that the Yeti would be brought back to life, and said the work would repair the current figure in its current spot. Disney Legend Joe Rohde has since said that Disney will replace the Expedition Everest Yeti rather than fix it.

Either way, there is still no public timeline. Disney has not said when the work will start, how long Expedition Everest might need to close for it, or whether the new lighting has anything to do with it. Walt Disney World has not answered questions about whether the lighting change means work is underway.

So treat the lighting as a nice surprise rather than a sign of anything bigger. Nothing official ties it to the Yeti project, and the figure you will see is the same one that has been standing still for years. It is just finally lit well enough to show off.

Riding Expedition Everest Now

Expedition Everest sits in the Asia section of Disney’s Animal Kingdom and remains open as normal. The Yeti appears near the end of the ride, after the train stops at the broken track, rolls backward through the mountain and then races forward again. The scene goes by quickly, so be ready for it once the train turns around.
