Doom did not wait for Hall H. Marvel Studios surprise-released the first full trailer for Avengers: Doomsday on Monday morning, five days ahead of its expected debut at the studio’s San Diego Comic-Con presentation this Saturday, timing the drop to the moment tickets officially went on sale.
Steve Rogers Takes Back The Hammer
The trailer is narrated by Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, who warns his allies that stopping Doctor Doom will take a miracle. That miracle arrives in the form of Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, who catches Mjolnir once again in the trailer’s signature moment, proving he is still worthy just as he was in Avengers: Endgame. Sam Wilson is still seen carrying the shield, so exactly what mantle Steve holds this time remains an open question.
Doom, Mutants, And A Multiverse Collision
Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom looms over the entire trailer, and he looks unstoppable, effortlessly swatting away a Stormbreaker strike from Thor with one hand. The footage also delivers the X-Men in force. Rebecca Romijn appears as Mystique for the first time in roughly two decades, Patrick Stewart’s Professor X and Ian McKellen’s Magneto share a quiet moment, and hero-on-hero chaos breaks out everywhere, with Channing Tatum’s Gambit squaring off against Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi and Mystique battling Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova. Shuri, M’Baku, and the Wakandans face down Namor, while Tom Hiddleston’s Loki watches it all unfold. A new poster arrived alongside the trailer, according to The Beat.
Why The Early Drop
Marvel had been teasing something all weekend. The Fantastic Four’s X account broke its 11 month streak of posting the same Sunday Dinner clip on Sunday night, cutting Reed Richards off mid-sentence with new audio: “How long do we have?” “Not long.” Less than a day later, the answer arrived. Avengers: Doomsday opens in theaters on December 18.
