Toy Story 5 drew 20 million views around the world in its first five days on Disney+, The Walt Disney Company said September 28, making the Pixar sequel the most-watched film on the service during its premiere week.
The Andrew Stanton film began streaming on Disney+ on September 23, a little over three months after it opened in theaters on June 19. Disney also said the movie now ranks among the top 10 theatrical film premieres on Disney+ globally to date.
The Most-Watched Film Franchise On Disney+
The new numbers add to what was already Disney+’s most-watched film franchise. According to Disney’s announcement, audiences have streamed more than 2 billion hours of Toy Story globally, and the four earlier films all consistently rank among the platform’s top 20 movies each year.
Disney credits Toy Story 5 with driving 168 million hours of lift to the franchise since its teaser trailer was released. Back in June, Disney said the first four films had already been streamed for more than 60 million hours in the run-up to the theatrical release, which it called the largest streaming lift it had seen tied to an upcoming movie.
A Billion-Dollar Run In Theaters
The streaming debut follows a theatrical run that passed $1 billion. Toy Story 5 opened to $159 million domestically and became the highest-grossing Toy Story film ever, not adjusted for inflation, with $1.13 billion at the global box office by late August, according to Variety. Only Michael and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie crossed that mark before it in 2026.
Across all five films, Disney says the Toy Story series has now earned more than $4 billion at the global box office since the original arrived in 1995.
In the new film, Woody, Buzz Lightyear and Jessie have to make sure Bonnie still wants to play with them after she is given Lilypad, an addictive new tablet. Tom Hanks, Tim Allen and Joan Cusack return to voice the three leads, and Greta Lee voices Lilypad. Stanton directed and wrote the film with co-director Kenna Harris, from a story by Stanton.

Toy Story 5 is streaming now on Disney+, where the four earlier films are also available. The PG-rated movie can also be bought on digital platforms and on 4K UHD and Blu-ray.
