In a new interview, Stanton revealed that he hopes Toy Story 6 will bring Bonnie’s chapter of the franchise to a satisfying close, drawing a direct parallel to the beloved Andy trilogy. “Andy had a perfect trilogy, hopefully Bonnie can have the same,” Stanton said. He expanded on that thinking: “I would want it to be honest, like it has been, and follow the lives of the kids. That’s, I think, what really made that feel closed in a perfect trilogy for Andy. Hopefully, we’ll do the same if it keeps going for Bonnie, and whoever else comes into their lives.” The comments confirm Stanton is thinking long-term about Bonnie’s arc, and they suggest that Pixar is approaching the post-Andy era of Toy Story with the same care and intentionality that defined the original three films.
Who Is Bonnie?
Bonnie was first introduced in Toy Story 3 as the young girl who receives Woody and the gang at the end of the film when Andy heads off to college. Toy Story 5 opened to $160 million domestically and $312 million worldwide in its debut weekend, shattering the franchise record. If audiences continue to respond the way early numbers suggest, a sixth installment completing Bonnie’s trilogy seems not just possible but likely. According to Dexerto, Stanton’s comments point to a deliberate plan already forming at Pixar, with producer Lindsey Collins adding that the franchise’s honesty about “the lives of kids in whatever era we’re in” is what has made it work.
