Treasures Untold Holds Jiminy Cricket’s Suit, Scrump And Kuzco’s Crown At The Magic Of Disney Animation

Figaro from Pinocchio sleeps on a Lost and Found sign beside the glowing Sundrop Flower from Tangled inside The Magic of Disney Animation

Treasures Untold is a gallery inside The Magic of Disney Animation stocked with props from across the studio’s history, and the list Disney published Wednesday includes Jiminy Cricket’s suit and gold star pin, Lilo’s doll Scrump, the Aristocats’ collars and Kuzco’s crown and earrings. The attraction opens September 14 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

The gallery is one piece of a much larger hunt. Disney says all 64 Walt Disney Animation Studios feature films are represented somewhere inside the attraction, which is the first time that has been true of anything at Walt Disney World. Some of the references are obvious. Others are pitched at guests willing to stand still and look up.

The Lost And Found Department

The reception area opens the attraction with a Lost and Found shelf running overhead, holding items their owners never came back for. The map sphere from Treasure Planet sits up there, along with Eeyore’s tail, a vase showing Hercules fighting the Hydra and the glowing Sundrop Flower from Tangled.

Figaro from Pinocchio has claimed the shelf as his own, curled up asleep on the Lost and Found sign itself, and he flicks his tail every so often while he keeps watch. The chandelier below him is hung with paintbrushes, and each one carries the name of a member of the Ink and Paint Department at Walt Disney Animation Studios. The tilework in the room is not generic either. It repeats the pattern in the lobby of the Roy E. Disney Animation Building in Burbank, the building this whole structure is modeled on.

Sketches And Maquettes

Pencil sketches hang throughout the space, including Oliver from Oliver and Company, Mr. Toad from The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, and Tod and Copper from The Fox and the Hound. Alongside them are maquettes, the small sculptures animators use to check a character from every angle. A young Tarzan sits on a tree trunk and Taffyta Muttonfudge from Wreck-It Ralph stands unpainted on a shelf, both inside the Off the Page! character areas.

A Kanine Krunchies Box And A Crown

Treasures Untold itself leans on objects rather than art. Jiminy Cricket’s suit hangs with the gold star pin he earns at the end of Pinocchio. A box of Kanine Krunchies, the dog food advertised on television in One Hundred and One Dalmatians, sits on display. Scrump, the handmade doll Lilo carries through Lilo and Stitch, is there, as are the collars worn by the Aristocats and the crown and earrings Kuzco wears before he is turned into a llama in The Emperor’s New Groove.

The route ends at the Animators’ Office, the room Imagineering walked through earlier this month, which is furnished with 13 genuine artifacts rather than props, including a desk saved from the park’s original Animation Academy. Disney’s full rundown of the hidden details arrived in its own preview five days before opening day.
