Voicemod Star Wars soundboards are here, giving gamers and streamers a way to drop Din Djarin and Grogu into their chats. Voicemod, the Spain-based company behind a soundboard and voice-changing app, has signed a licensing deal with Disney to offer official Star Wars audio clips, starting with The Mandalorian and Grogu.
Marvel characters are coming to the platform later, the company said, though it has not named which heroes or when. For now, the launch is all about Mando and the little green kid.
How The Mandalorian And Grogu Soundboards Work
The Mandalorian and Grogu soundboards are stand-alone purchases. They cost $9.99, or $7.99 for Voicemod premium subscribers, and include 20 audio clips of quotes and sound effects. Once they are connected to the app, each clip sits behind its own custom icon, so users can fire one off mid-game, during a stream or while chatting with friends on platforms like Twitch. Voicemod has also released a video showing how the clips work in practice.
There is one notable limit. Voicemod is best known for its voice-changing technology, but the Disney deal does not let users turn themselves into a Mandalorian. The Star Wars activation only covers pre-existing sounds, which play back as they are, Deadline reports.
The idea is quick reactions rather than impressions. Voicemod co-founder and CEO Jaime Bosch described it that way in an interview with GamesBeat, saying customers “use those sounds to express an emotion, almost like an emoji. Just as you would use an emoji in the chat. They use it the same way, but on a communication via audio.”
Why It Matters For Star Wars Fans
Voicemod says it has 5.7 million monthly active users. For Star Wars fans on it, this is an officially licensed way to bring Mando and Grogu into game nights and streams.
Most Star Wars gaming news centers on single titles, like the reports around Star Wars Battlefront 3. This deal works differently. The clips are not tied to any one game, so they go wherever a player is already chatting or streaming, whatever is on screen.
The Mandalorian and Grogu are the first Disney characters on Voicemod. Anyone hoping for Marvel clips will have to wait for the company to announce which characters come next and when they arrive.
