Imagineering opened the vault. Walt Disney Imagineering has shared a rare video look inside the Imagineering Archives and Art Collection, showcasing treasures that include original hand-drawn maps and early concept art for Disneyland Park.
Where Disneyland Was Born On Paper
The video, shared over the weekend by Drew Smith, offers a glimpse at the kind of material Imagineering rarely puts on camera: the original drawings and planning documents from the era when Walt Disney’s park existed only as ink and imagination. For fans who just celebrated Disneyland’s 71st birthday on July 17, seeing the earliest hand-drawn visions of the park is a fitting way to mark the occasion.
The Archives Keep The Blue Sky Alive
The Imagineering Archives and Art Collection serves as both a historical record and a working reference for today’s Imagineers, who regularly mine decades of concept art when developing new projects. It is a reminder that every land and attraction, from the original 1955 opening day lineup to the projects rising around the globe right now, starts as an artist’s sketch.
More Imagineering Access Is Coming
The rare look lands just weeks before Imagineering takes its biggest public stage in years. The division’s Imagineering: Horizons pavilion will be the largest in D23 history when D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event arrives in Anaheim this August, promising fans an up-close look at the people and process behind the parks. Consider this video a preview of the vault doors swinging open.
