Walt Disney Imagineering has added a new pre-show to Zootopia: Better Zoogether at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and it went in front of guests today. Patrick Warburton reprises Mayor Brian Winddancer from Zootopia 2, addressing the audience as they take their seats in the Tree of Life Theater.
It is the first change made to the show since it opened in November 2025.
What The Scene Does
Winddancer welcomes guests to the celebration at a press conference, setting up the adventure that follows in the main 4D presentation. It runs only a few seconds, extending the show’s roughly nine minute runtime barely at all, but it gives the attraction an opening beat it did not have and a clearer reason for the gathering at its center.
Walt Disney Animation Studios worked with Imagineering’s story team on the addition, and the sequence was tested overnight inside the theater before it debuted. LaughingPlace has a full look at the new scene here.
Warburton Advertised A Show He Was Not In
Around the time the show opened in November 2025, Warburton filmed a promotional video standing in front of the Tree of Life, inviting guests to come see both Zootopia 2 and the new attraction. His character had no part in it. Eight months later he does.
Disney’s own D23 archive describes Warburton as best known at the company for playing the pilot and narrator of Soarin’ Over California at Disney California Adventure. He is also Kronk from The Emperor’s New Groove, and Winddancer makes him the second Disney animated horse he has voiced, after the character named Patrick in Home on the Range in 2004, a horse the filmmakers named after him.
In Zootopia 2, Winddancer is an actor turned politician, camera ready and confident without being especially competent, which makes a press conference a reasonable place to put him.
A Fast Turnaround For A New Show
Zootopia: Better Zoogether opened to all guests on November 7, 2025, taking over the Tree of Life Theater from It’s Tough to Be a Bug, which had run there since the park opened in 1998. Reception has been mixed, with a recurring complaint that the story moves too fast to let guests spend any real time in Zootopia. A pre-show does not fix that, but changing a show inside its first year is quick by Walt Disney World standards.
It has been a busy stretch at the park. The new silverback gorilla went on view earlier this week, and Bakari is now appearing on the Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail, while construction continues on Tropical Americas nearby.
