runDisney has revealed the six finisher medals for the 2027 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend, and Donald Duck turns up all over the lineup. The January 6 to 10 race weekend celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Walt Disney World Half Marathon, and Donald was that race’s very first mascot.
Donald stars on the half marathon medal and makes a cameo on the 5K, 10K and marathon medals, and three of the six designs have hinged covers that open to show more inside.
The Four Race Medals
The half marathon medal is the centerpiece of the anniversary. It is shaped like a 30, with Donald’s sailor cap perched on top and Donald sprinting across the front, and a hinged cover swings open to reveal Daisy cheering him on. The ribbon carries “30 Years” on it.
Mickey and Minnie lead the marathon medal, a red shield marked 26.2 miles, with Donald waving from the corner while holding up a medal of his own. Chip ‘n’ Dale take the 10K medal, and Pluto headlines the 5K, each with a small Donald medallion worked into the design.
Goofy And Dopey Challenge Medals Open Up
Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge, for runners who finish both the half marathon and the marathon, gets a teal hexagon with Goofy running across the front. Its side panels swing open to a navy center marked “39.3 Miles,” the combined distance, with Donald standing inside holding a medal in each hand.
The Dopey Challenge medal goes to runners who finish all four races. It is a purple, glittery octagon with Dopey bounding across the front, and it opens like a locket, with Dopey holding a handful of medals on one side and the 48.6-mile total on the other. A Dopey finisher walks away with six medals in all: the four race medals plus both challenge medals.
2027 Race Dates
The 5K runs Thursday, January 7, followed by the 10K on January 8, the half marathon on January 9 and the marathon on January 10. Goofy’s Race and a Half covers January 9 and 10, and the Dopey Challenge runs all four days. Every race and challenge on the weekend is already sold out, so only runners who already hold a registration will be earning these medals.
Runners need to visit the runDisney Health and Fitness Expo at least one day before their first race to pick up their bib.
