VisionQuest is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, and the badge landed with only hours to go before the Marvel series arrives on Disney+. As of Monday evening, the season held an 85% Tomatometer score from 33 critics’ reviews, with an average rating of 7.3 out of 10.
Twenty-eight of those 33 reviews count as positive, which means the show earned the badge before most viewers have seen a single frame. The score could still move as more critics weigh in once the season is out in the world.
When VisionQuest Premieres On Disney+
The first two episodes drop on Disney+ on Tuesday, October 13, at 6 p.m. PT, a day earlier than Marvel first planned. New episodes follow every Tuesday. The eight-episode season opens with three weeks of double features, then slows to one episode a week before the finale on November 10.
Anyone who needs a refresher can still squeeze one in. Marvel has posted the first three episodes of WandaVision for free on YouTube, and VisionQuest closes out the story that started there and carried on through Agatha All Along.
A London Premiere On The Eve Of Launch
The cast spent Monday in London, where VisionQuest held its U.K. premiere at the BFI IMAX as part of the 70th BFI London Film Festival. The audience saw the first two episodes. Paul Bettany and James Spader attended with Ruaridh Mollica, Emily Hampshire, T’Nia Miller and Orla Brady, along with showrunner Terry Matalas. Joe Locke, who played Billy in Agatha All Along, turned up as a special guest.
Bettany returns as Vision, who has been living in hiding with the AI personas built into his programming for company. Hampshire plays EDITH, and Spader is back as Ultron for the first time since Avengers: Age of Ultron. A bounty on Vision’s head sends him on the run with Tommy, played by Mollica, a young man who may be Vision’s son reborn.
The early buzz has been building since New York Comic Con on October 8, when Marvel surprised the panel crowd with a screening of the first episode. Matalas told that crowd the series “was really made with love,” from the Marvel executives to the writers and the crews at Pinewood Studios. “I think you can see that on screen,” he said. The critics who have seen it so far mostly agree.
