The Avengers: Doomsday World Series preview finally aired during Game 1 on Friday night, and Marvel used it to put Pedro Pascal’s Mister Fantastic on the mound. Wearing a Brooklyn cap and a blue Fantastic Four uniform, Reed Richards uses his stretchy arm to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at Ebbets Field, a playful way to fold the Fantastic Four into baseball’s biggest stage.
The spot ran during the Tampa Bay Rays and Milwaukee Brewers opener, which aired on Fox and streamed on Fox One. It is the payoff to the tease Major League Baseball put out ahead of the game, when the league promised fans an exclusive Avengers: Doomsday preview during World Series Game 1.
Two Captains And One Confused Ant-Man
One of the lighter beats in the preview belongs to Paul Rudd. Chris Evans is back as Steve Rogers, and Scott Lang can’t quite figure out what to call him now that Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson is the one carrying the shield. Both men have carried the Captain America name, and the preview has fun with Ant-Man trying to keep them straight.
The baseball side got its own moment, too. The preview cuts five MLB stars into the scene at Ebbets Field: Bryce Harper, Freddie Freeman, Jacob Misiorowski, Junior Caminero and Randy Arozarena. Misiorowski, who also started Game 1 for the Brewers, gets the best line as Reed takes the mound: “These ceremonial first pitches are getting bigger and bigger.” Before the game, the league teased the spot with a short clip of the five players watching from the rail of a retro ballpark as the sky turns green and the Avengers logo appears.
Pascal and Joseph Quinn first played Reed Richards and Johnny Storm in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which opened in July 2025 with Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm. Quinn’s Human Torch turns up at the ballpark too, in a Brooklyn cap with a bat in his hands. Doomsday is where that family crosses paths with the rest of the MCU, and this preview puts Reed and Johnny front and center for a World Series audience.
What Avengers: Doomsday Is About
Avengers: Doomsday opens in theaters on December 18. Marvel says the film sets heroes from three distinct universes on a deadly collision course against an existential threat unlike anything they have faced, with Robert Downey Jr. playing Doctor Doom. That collision is what brings Reed Richards and Johnny Storm into the fight.
The cast is enormous. Chris Hemsworth returns as Thor, alongside Mackie, Evans and Rudd, plus Tenoch Huerta as Namor, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Letitia Wright as Black Panther, Danny Ramirez as Falcon, Winston Duke as M’Baku and Tom Hiddleston as Loki. The X-Men side brings back Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, James Marsden as Cyclops and Channing Tatum as Gambit.
