Tokyo Disneyland has set the date. Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue, the first Wreck-It Ralph attraction at any Disney park, will open in Tomorrowland on Thursday, April 15, 2027, the same day the park turns 44.
The ride had only carried a spring 2027 window until today, when Oriental Land Company locked in the opening along with a new shop, a new popcorn stand and a run of celebrations that starts in January.
Turning Sugar Bugs Back Into Sweets
The attraction replaces Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters, which closed on October 31, 2024. The story picks up with King Candy setting his sights on Sugar Rush, the candy-coated racing game from the film. He has reprogrammed the game’s gummies, ice cream and other treats into Sugar Bugs built to eat the whole world, and riders team up with Ralph and Vanellope to turn every one of them back into a cute sweet.

Each vehicle carries a device riders use to restore the Sugar Bugs, and points come from the kinds of sweets brought back and how many. Scores show up on a display in the vehicle, and they stay viewable in the Tokyo Disney Resort app for a period after the ride. Henry Jackman, who scored Wreck-It Ralph, wrote and newly recorded the attraction’s music.
There is a ride photo too. The app automatically adds it to My Photo, and guests can buy it for 30 days after the day it was taken. To get the photo and score in the app, riders need to open the app and switch Bluetooth on before boarding. Tokyo Disney Resort also says the ride may require a free Standby Pass or a paid Disney Premier Access purchase.

A New Shop And Sugar Lime Popcorn
Pixel Prism opens next door on the same day. The shop is themed as a digital market, with fiber optic-inspired design, pixel-patterned floors and a giant glowing pixel sculpture out front. It will carry ride merchandise including postcards of Ralph, Vanellope and the Sugar Bugs, plush of characters from the attraction, toys and snacks.

The popcorn arrives first. Popping Station, a stand designed as a popular popcorn spot in outer space, opens Wednesday, March 17, 2027, facing the new Tomorrowland Plaza, and its building glows a bluish white at night.

Popping Station and popcorn wagons around Tokyo Disneyland will sell a new Sugar Lime Popcorn inspired by the Sugar Bugs, a sweet and tart flavor that comes in pink Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue boxes. Special menu items celebrating the opening are also planned at restaurants across the park.

The Countdown Starts January 12
Guests do not have to wait until April to start playing. On Tuesday, January 12, 2027, a smartphone mini-game launches that trains players to save Sugar Rush. It works from home, and select areas of Tokyo Disneyland will offer a special version set against park scenery. Players can reach it through the Tokyo Disney Resort website and social accounts, or through a code on the back of limited-edition stickers handed out starting the same day.
Decorations themed to the ride begin appearing around Tomorrowland on Thursday, February 18, set up for photos. Then on Thursday, March 18, a projection mapping show inspired by the attraction comes to Cinderella Castle.
Vanellope is already getting settled at the park. She made her stage show debut there this fall in D-Groovationz4 Live.
Space Mountain Earthrise Comes Later
Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue is the first piece of a larger Tomorrowland overhaul. Space Mountain Earthrise and Tomorrowland Plaza will follow, along with more shops and dining, but Tokyo Disney Resort has not given a date for those yet.
