Disney Gift Cards Now Supported As Default Payment In Disneyland And WDW Apps

Disney Gift Cards Just Got Way More Useful

Disney has rolled out a long-requested feature to both the Disneyland and Walt Disney World apps: Disney Gift Cards can now be added as a default payment method through MyDisney Wallet. It’s a simple but genuinely meaningful quality-of-life improvement for guests who use gift cards to budget their Disney vacations. As LaughingPlace reported, the update was first spotted by Disney reporter Scott Gustin.

How It Works

To take advantage of the new feature, guests can head to the MyDisney Wallet section within either the Disneyland or My Disney Experience app and add their gift card. Once saved, the card can be used for most in-app purchases, including mobile food orders and tickets. It’s a seamless integration that makes gift cards a much more practical option for on-the-go spending in the parks.

There is one notable exception: Lightning Lane purchases are not yet supported through the Disney Gift Card payment method. Disney has not indicated when or if Lightning Lane support will be added, so guests who rely on Lightning Lane Premier or Lightning Lane Multi Pass will still need a credit or debit card for those transactions for now.

Why This Matters for Disney Guests

Disney Gift Cards have long been a popular tool for families budgeting for a Disney vacation. Many guests load gift cards with a set amount before their trip as a way to manage spending, and the previous limitation of not being able to use them directly in the app created friction that sent some purchases back to a physical card or cash. This update removes that barrier for the majority of in-app transactions.

Gift cards are also frequently available at a discount through third-party retailers, making them a savvy way to stretch a Disney budget further. Being able to link them directly to the app makes that strategy even more practical.
