With just over a week until Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters on July 31, Marvel’s final marketing blitz is delivering fresh villain reveals while shooting down one of the internet’s favorite theories.
Tombstone And The Hand Step Into The Light
New promotional material has given fans their first proper look at Marvin Jones III as Tombstone, the chalk-white crime boss the actor previously voiced in 2018’s animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The new footage recreates the classic cover of Spectacular Spider-Man #142, with Tombstone holding a prone wall-crawler high above New York. A separate new look also spotlights The Hand, the shadowy ninja clan best known from the Daredevil corner of the Marvel universe, further connecting the film to New York’s street-level underworld alongside Jon Bernthal’s Punisher.
Tom Holland Shoots Down Jean Grey
Meanwhile, Tom Holland has ruled out the theory that Jean Grey appears in the film, a popular guess for Sadie Sink’s still-secret role. “She’s not in this movie, but it would be pretty cool,” Holland said in an interview clip shared online. The denial narrows the field of possibilities for Sink’s character, which Marvel playfully censored in this week’s teaser, and follows Holland’s long history of guarding the film’s secrets, including keeping the main villain under wraps.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day opens July 31, with international rollouts beginning July 29. All the answers arrive soon enough.
