ABC has released the trailer for Season 2 of its Scrubs revival, and it brings back a familiar face from the original series. Scott Foley returns as Sean Kelly, Elliot’s love interest from the early seasons, as the show heads into a two-episode premiere on Wednesday, September 30. Tamera Mowry-Housley is also joining the season as a guest star.
The premiere airs at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC, and new episodes stream the next day on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+. The official trailer is on ABC’s YouTube channel.
What The Trailer Shows
J.D. (Zach Braff) and Turk (Donald Faison) are now experienced doctors helping guide a new group of residents at Sacred Heart, while still finding time for the friendship at the center of the show. Sarah Chalke is back as Dr. Elliot Reid.
The trailer also spends time on one of the show’s more serious storylines. J.D. is working to help his friend and mentor Dr. Perry Cox, played by John C. McGinley, who was revealed last season to have a dangerous autoimmune disease.
Alongside that thread, the footage mixes in relationship trouble, therapy sessions and the physical comedy the show has always leaned on.
Scott Foley Returns As Sean Kelly
Foley’s return is the headline reveal. He first played Sean Kelly in the original run of Scrubs, where the character dated Elliot. The trailer offers only a glimpse of him, and ABC has not said how many episodes he will appear in.
Tamera Mowry-Housley Guest Stars
Tamera Mowry-Housley will guest star in Season 2 as Dr. Steffie, a pediatric doctor who tries to persuade Tosh, played by Ava Bunn, to choose pediatrics as her specialty. Bunn has been promoted to series regular for the new season.
Who Isn’t Coming Back
Two of the revival’s Season 1 characters are gone. Joel Kim Booster, who played the scheming attending physician Dr. Kevin Park, and X Mayo, who played charge nurse Raymond, will not return for Season 2, Deadline reports.
Braff told Deadline that Park’s exit was a creative choice. Bill Lawrence wanted J.D.’s new nemesis to come from below him rather than above, so the show is bringing in SNL alum John Higgins as Grant, a new chief resident who drives J.D. nuts “in the same way that J.D. drove Dr. Cox nuts.” “Joel was incredible,” Braff said.
Mayo’s exit came down to scheduling. Raymond and fellow charge nurse Dubois, played by Michael James Scott, were two of the revival’s breakout characters, but Braff said Mayo is “working so much and so busy” that she wasn’t fully available. Like most of the Scrubs cast, she was a recurring guest star rather than under contract. “We would have loved to have X on more,” Braff said. Scott returns as Dubois, and Keyla Monterroso Mejia joins as surgical nurse Mimi.
When And Where To Watch
After the two-episode premiere, Scrubs will hold the 8 p.m. Wednesday slot on ABC through the fall. Episodes stream on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ in the United States the day after they air, and the series is released internationally on Disney+. The first revival season and the original series are also streaming on Hulu.
Scrubs joins an ABC fall lineup that also includes Dancing With The Stars, which returned for Season 35 on September 15.
Where The Revival Stands
The revival premiered on ABC on February 25, 2026, bringing Scrubs back to television for the first time since its original run ended in 2010. The first season ran nine episodes through April 15, and production on Season 2 began in July. Bill Lawrence, who created the original series, executive produces, with Aseem Batra as showrunner.
