Construction walls have come down at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, revealing the newly transformed Walt Disney Studios Courtyard to guests ahead of its official May 26 debut. The reimagined space replaces the former Animation Courtyard, marking a significant refresh for the Florida theme park.
From Animation Courtyard to Walt Disney Studios
Animation Courtyard permanently closed in September 2025 to undergo a complete transformation. The iconic archway that once welcomed guests was demolished, making way for a fresh design inspired by the legendary Walt Disney Studios lot in Burbank, California. After eight months of construction, the walls came down on May 20, allowing guests their first glimpse of the beautifully landscaped courtyard.
The new space features lush trees, shaded seating areas, and whimsical Disney character details throughout. Where stroller parking once dominated the center, guests now find inviting benches surrounded by greenery. Character touches include birds from Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty perched on building facades, along with Disney character handprints embedded in the walkways, echoing the famous celebrity handprints at the Chinese Theatre.

What’s Opening and When
While the courtyard is now accessible to guests, the official grand opening is set for May 26, 2026, coinciding with the debut of Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live. This new live show transforms the former Disney Jr. Play and Dance space into an interactive celebration where Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and friends invite guests to clap, cheer, and dance along.
The Magic of Disney Animation, housed in the building that previously contained Star Wars Launch Bay, will open later in summer 2026. This new experience will feature a massive Sorcerer Mickey hat topping the building, replicating the iconic structure from the real Animation Building in Burbank. Additional experiences including the Drawn to Wonderland playground, character greetings at Off the Page, and Olaf Draws are also scheduled to open later this year.
What It Means for Disney Fans
The Walt Disney Studios Courtyard represents Disney’s ongoing investment in Hollywood Studios, giving the park a much-needed refresh without completely overhauling its identity. The transformation celebrates Disney’s animation heritage while creating a more relaxing, family-friendly space within the park.
For longtime Disney fans, the return of animation-focused experiences fills a void left when Star Wars took over much of the area. The attention to detail, from character Easter eggs to Burbank-inspired architecture, demonstrates Disney Imagineering working closely with Disney Animation artists to create an authentic tribute to the studio’s creative legacy.
This opening kicks off what promises to be an exciting period for Hollywood Studios. With Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster receiving a Muppets retheme and Monstropolis land planned for 2028, the park is positioned to offer guests compelling new experiences while maintaining its one-day park appeal. For families with young children, the combination of the new courtyard, Disney Jr. show, and upcoming Magic of Disney Animation attraction creates a dedicated hub celebrating the characters and stories that define Disney animation.
