A familiar name in Disney’s streaming world is taking on a major new role. Alisa Bowen, who has served as president of Disney+ since 2022, is departing to become the chief executive officer of Fubo, the live TV streaming service that Disney now majority owns.
From Disney+ President To Fubo CEO
According to Variety, Fubo’s board appointed Bowen as CEO effective July 10, with the executive succeeding co-founder David Gandler, who led the company for more than a decade and is also leaving its board. Bowen brings nearly ten years of experience at The Walt Disney Company, most recently overseeing Disney+, and was a founding member of the streaming leadership team that built and scaled Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+. Before Disney, she held leadership positions at News Corp, Dow Jones, and Thomson Reuters.
In a statement, Bowen said she was excited to lead Fubo into its next phase by sharpening its strategy across sports, news, and entertainment while driving growth and profitability for subscribers, advertisers, and content partners. She is expected to join Fubo’s board pending shareholder approval at the company’s annual meeting on July 28.
A Disney-Controlled Streamer
The appointment keeps Bowen firmly inside the Disney orbit. The Walt Disney Company acquired a 70 percent stake in Fubo in the fall of 2025 by merging its Hulu + Live TV operations into the platform, creating one of the largest pay TV streaming services in the United States. Fubo chairman Andy Bird, himself a former chairman of Walt Disney International, praised Bowen’s track record of building and scaling major streaming products as the right fit for the company’s next chapter.
Her departure leaves an open question about who will lead Disney+ going forward, as the company now runs a unified streaming business with Joe Earley and Adam Smith serving as co-presidents of direct-to-consumer, overseeing Disney+ and Hulu. The move underscores how deeply Disney’s streaming ambitions now extend beyond its own apps, a trend also visible in offerings like the discounted Disney+ and Hulu bundle. It marks a notable moment for one of the architects of Disney’s streaming rise.
