All FX Series Will Now Premiere Simultaneously On Cable And Hulu

The way you watch FX shows just got a lot simpler. All FX series now premiere simultaneously on the linear FX and FXX cable channels and on Hulu, ending the era of staggered releases that sometimes left cable viewers and streamers on completely different schedules. Variety broke the news of the strategy shift, which has quietly been in effect since the beginning of 2026.

A Quiet Change Made Official

According to Variety, the shift actually began without fanfare on January 21, 2026, when Ryan Murphy’s The Beauty premiered on the FX cable channel and dropped on Hulu at the same time. Every FX-branded series since has followed suit, including Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, which aired its premiere on FX while dropping its first three episodes on Hulu on February 3, and Welcome to Wrexham, whose Season 5 premiere aired May 14 on FXX as its first two episodes hit Hulu.

The most high-profile example arrives with the fifth and final season of The Bear, which premieres June 25 with all episodes on Hulu while airing weekly on the FX channel, making it the first returning FX on Hulu series to launch on both platforms the same day. Adults Season 2 follows on August 27, premiering two episodes at 9 p.m. on FXX while all episodes drop simultaneously on Hulu and FX on Demand.

Why FX Made the Move

Since Disney acquired FX as part of the 21st Century Fox deal in 2019, the network has steadily evolved from a basic cable channel into a multi-platform programming brand, one FX increasingly views as a label in the vein of Marvel or Lucasfilm. FX chairman John Landgraf oversees the brand’s programming, while the linear channels themselves fall under Disney Entertainment Television chairman Debra OConnell’s organization.

Per Variety, the timing is no accident: aligning premieres across cable and streaming makes Emmy For Your Consideration campaigns cleaner, with one premiere date across every platform instead of a confusing patchwork. Internally, FX hopes the setup mirrors the relationship HBO enjoys with HBO Max, where a prestige brand and a streaming service reinforce each other rather than compete.

What It Means for Viewers

For fans, the practical upshot is simple: one time, one date, everywhere. Whether you watch on cable, on demand, or on Hulu (or on Disney+ internationally), FX premieres now happen for everyone at once. No more dodging spoilers because one platform got a show first, and no more wondering when a cable premiere will finally hit streaming. With The Bear’s final season leading the way, the new strategy gets its biggest test yet this summer.
