Genovia is back on track. Anne Hathaway says The Princess Diaries 3 has had a “story breakthrough” after the creative team was forced to start over on the script, offering the most encouraging update yet on the long-awaited Disney sequel.

“I think we are moving in the right direction,” Hathaway told Variety. “The script that we were working on, we kind of had to start over with this new direction, which is not the update I think anybody wants, but we all feel really good that this is gonna be the one.” It is a candid admission that development hit a wall, paired with genuine optimism that the reset produced something worth the wait.
