VOX Cinemas has cancelled the Kuwait release of Avengers Endgame: Encore the same week the re-release opens around the world, and is refunding customers who already bought tickets online.
In a notice posted to Instagram in Arabic and English, the chain said Avengers Endgame: Encore “will no longer be released in Kuwait” and apologized to fans for the disappointment. VOX did not give a reason for the decision.
Refunds Are Automatic
Tickets were already on sale when the release was pulled. VOX said anyone who booked through its website or app will have their refund processed automatically, so ticket holders do not need to request one. The chain closed its notice by thanking customers for their patience and understanding.
A Different Story From 2019
Kuwait was part of the original Avengers: Endgame rollout seven years ago. VOX held exclusive premiere screenings in Kuwait on April 23, 2019, the same night as its premieres in Dubai, Beirut, Muscat, Jeddah and Bahrain. Pre-sale tickets for the original broke records across the region, according to cinema operators at the time.
That 2019 release played in Kuwaiti theaters with cuts to meet the country’s censorship rules. This time, the film will not play there at all.
What Encore Adds
Avengers Endgame: Encore brings the 2019 film back to theaters with new footage added, including a look at Avengers: Doomsday. The story is unchanged, following the surviving Avengers as they try to undo Thanos’ snap and bring back everyone who vanished. The re-release runs three hours and five minutes, a few minutes longer than the original. Interest in the return has been huge, with the Encore trailer drawing 77 million views in its first 24 hours.
How much new footage audiences see depends on the screen. Standard showings add roughly two minutes, while select IMAX and Infinity Vision screenings run about five minutes longer with an expanded Doomsday preview, meaning the ticket you buy decides how much Doomsday footage you get.
The rest of the world gets the film this week. Encore opened in South Korea on September 23 and reaches India on September 25. In the U.S., Avengers Endgame: Encore opens Friday, September 25, with preview screenings beginning Thursday, September 24 at some theaters. Avengers: Doomsday follows on December 18.
