The Greens are finally coming back. After a number of teases, Disney has revealed that Big City Greens Season 5 will premiere on Disney Channel on Friday, August 21, with episodes arriving on Disney+ the following day, as reported by Laughing Place.
The Longest Hiatus In Series History
By the time the Season 5 premiere arrives, the hit animated series will have been off the air for over a year, its longest gap between seasons ever. Season 4 wrapped its run in August 2025, capping a stretch that included the show’s 100th episode, a milestone previously reached by only Phineas and Ferb among Disney Channel animated series.
The announcement itself came with a wink. Co-creator Chris Houghton recently took to social media with a puppet version of his character, Cricket Green, to tease a big announcement about the show’s future. As promised, that announcement turned out to be exactly what fans hoped: a premiere date.
More Cricket, Tilly, And The Whole Green Family
Big City Greens follows the offbeat adventures of 10 year old Cricket Green and his family, including sister Tilly, father Bill, and Gramma Alice, as they navigate life between Big City and their country roots. The Season 5 renewal was originally announced back in 2024, over a year before Season 4 concluded, and the new season has been in production since late that year. More details about the season, including guest stars, are expected in the coming weeks.
The premiere adds to a busy late summer for Disney Channel animation and original programming, joining fellow returning favorites on the schedule as Disney builds out its fall slate. It follows other recent Disney Channel franchise news like The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen getting an official greenlight.
