Carol Choi Will Succeed Luke Kang As President Of Disney Asia Pacific On December 1

Luke Kang, President of The Walt Disney Company Asia Pacific

Carol Choi, currently Executive Vice President of Disney Asia Pacific, will succeed Luke Kang as President, APAC on December 1, after Kang decided to retire following 16 years with the company.

Choi will run Disney Entertainment’s businesses across the region: studios, Disney+, local original productions, consumer products, media networks and content sales. Her region covers Greater China, Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand, Deadline reported.

Who Is Carol Choi?

Choi has been with Disney for 20 years. In her current job she oversees the region’s studios business, original content strategy and integrated marketing. Before that she was Managing Director of Disney in Japan and Korea, and she has held senior roles in Greater China.

She helped launch and grow Disney+ in Asia Pacific, expand the studios business and build long-term partnerships with filmmakers and talent in Asia. Disney+’s regional originals include the Korean series Made in Korea, whose final season arrived in September.

“I am honored to take on this role and grateful to Luke for the strong foundation he has built,” Choi said. “Asia Pacific is home to some of the world’s most passionate fans and dynamic creative communities.” She added that she looks forward to working with Disney’s teams and partners “to bring exceptional stories and experiences to audiences, grow our businesses, and deepen Disney’s connection with fans across the region.”

Luke Kang Is Retiring After 16 Years

Kang joined Disney in 2011 as Managing Director of Korea and went on to run the Greater China and North Asia businesses. As APAC president he oversaw the Disney+ rollout in Asia Pacific and the studio’s move into local-language content in markets including Korea and Japan.

Alan Bergman, chairman of Disney Entertainment Studios, and ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro called Kang “an exceptional leader and a driving force behind Disney’s growth and transformation across Asia Pacific,” adding that he “strengthened our businesses, built outstanding teams and deepened Disney’s connection with fans across the region.” They described Choi as “a proven Disney leader with broad operating experience, strong creative instincts, and a deep understanding of the region.”

Kang said it had been “an extraordinary privilege to lead Disney in Asia Pacific through a period of significant growth and transformation,” and that Choi is “uniquely positioned to build on this momentum and lead APAC into its next phase of growth.”
