Chris Pratt says Star-Lord is coming back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Speaking on The Bingeworthy podcast while promoting the second season of The Terminal List, Pratt said “hard action” has been taken toward bringing Peter Quill back, The Playlist reported on October 21.
“I have a great relationship with Kevin [Feige] and Lou [D’Esposito], and there have been both ongoing conversations about how we make good on that promise and also hard action taken to make sure that we make good on that promise,” Pratt said. “So yeah, you’ll see Star-Lord again, which is very exciting, but I’m not at liberty to say when that’s going to be, but he’s not going anywhere.”

The Promise Pratt Is Talking About
The promise is one Marvel made on screen. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which opened on May 5, 2023, ended with a title card that read “The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return.” By the end of that film, Quill had left the Guardians and gone home to Earth to reconnect with his grandfather, played by Gregg Henry.
That was more than three years ago, and Marvel has not announced a project with Star-Lord in it since. Feige is the president of Marvel Studios and D’Esposito is its co-president, so Pratt’s talks are with the studio’s top two executives.
Pratt has played Quill since the first Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014, and the character has appeared in both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
No Date, And No Doomsday Confirmation
Pratt did not say which film or series Quill will return in. He was not among the actors Marvel announced for Avengers: Doomsday, which opens on December 18, 2026, and when Marvel put out its official Doomsday watchlist, the Guardians of the Galaxy films were left off entirely.
In the meantime, Pratt is back on screen in a different role. The Terminal List season two, in which he again plays Navy SEAL James Reece, premiered on Prime Video on October 21 with all eight episodes at once.
