Grab your pocket watch, because Wonderland is calling again. Disney has officially announced the premiere date for Descendants: Wicked Wonderland, the fifth installment in the beloved musical franchise, alongside a brand-new teaser trailer and a delightful casting surprise: Awkwafina is joining the film as the voice of Chessy the Cat.
When Does Wicked Wonderland Premiere?
Descendants: Wicked Wonderland premieres Thursday, July 16, 2026 on Disney Channel, followed by its streaming debut on Disney+ the next day, Friday, July 17. Awkwafina Joins As Chessy The Cat
The biggest surprise of the announcement is Awkwafina stepping into the twisted world of Wonderland as Chessy the Cat, a playful new spin on the iconic Cheshire Cat. It is a perfect bit of casting, pairing the Golden Globe winner’s unmistakable voice and comedic timing with one of Alice in Wonderland’s most mischievous characters. Chessy does not appear in the teaser, so her look remains a mystery for now.
What Is Wicked Wonderland About?
Picking up after the events of Descendants: The Rise of Red, the new film explores the consequences of Red and Chloe’s time-traveling adventure. Per the official synopsis, now that the Queen of Hearts is nice and Cinderella is safe, things seem perfect, but changing the past created a new villain: Maddox Hatter. When Maddox captures the Queen of Hearts, Red and Chloe must team up with Red’s new sister Pink, Luisa Madrigal’s son Luis, Captain Hook’s daughter Hazel, and Maddox’s son Max to save her and Wonderland.
Kylie Cantrall and Malia Baker return as Red and Chloe, with Leonardo Nam back as Maddox Hatter, plus Rita Ora as the Queen of Hearts, Brandy as Cinderella, Melanie Paxson as Fairy Godmother, and Paolo Montalban as King Charming. Newcomers include Liamani Segura as Pink, Brendon Tremblay as Max Hatter, Alexandro Byrd as Luis Madrigal, Kiara Romero as Hazel Hook, Joel Oulette as Robbie Hood, and Zavien Garrett as Felix Facilier. Kimmy Gatewood directs.
Wicked Wonderland joins a packed summer of family streaming on Disney platforms, right alongside Adventure Time: Side Quests arriving June 29 on Hulu and Disney+. July 16 will be here before we know it.
