Guests on the Disney Treasure’s October 10 sailing are not getting Key to the World cards outside their staterooms. Disney Cruise Line is testing Key to the World wristbands on that sailing, swapping the plastic card for something worn on the wrist.
The Key to the World card is the one item every Disney cruiser carries from boarding day on. It opens the stateroom door, covers purchases on board and gets scanned every time a guest leaves or returns to the ship. Turning it into a wristband means one less thing to dig out of a pocket at the pool deck or the gangway.
How The Wristband Test Works
Check-in is where the change happens. Guests who already own a DisneyBand+ have their bands activated during check-in as usual. Everyone else on the sailing is handed a wearable Key to the World wristband as part of the same process, Blog Mickey reported. Disney Cruise Line also sent the details in an email to travel advisors with clients on the sailing, Cruise Hive reported.
In that email, Disney said it is testing the wristbands as it keeps looking for ways to make a Disney cruise vacation even easier. Guests on the sailing got a letter too, Scott Gustin reported, in which Disney calls it a limited test of a more convenient way to get into the stateroom and use the card’s other functions on board.
Disney has not released its own photos of the band, but Gustin shared the first look on the morning the ship sailed from Port Canaveral: plain silicone wristbands in red, blue, yellow and green.
NEW: Disney Cruise Line is testing a new wearable Key to the World wristband during the Disney Treasure sailing departing today from Port Canaveral, Florida.

What To Know Before You Sail
This is not a free DisneyBand+. The Key to the World wristband only works on the October 10 sailing and cannot be used at other Disney experiences, so it has no use once guests are back on land. It simply stands in for the card for the length of the cruise.
Guests will not get to keep it either. When the cruise ends, the wristbands go back in collection containers set up outside the Disney Cruise Line Terminal.
For families who sail often, the bigger question is whether the wristbands spread to other ships. Disney is not promising that. “While we try new things frequently, not all of them become part of our operation,” the cruise line wrote in that email, which leaves the card in place on every other sailing for now.
If the idea does stick, it would reach a fleet that keeps growing. The Disney Believe maiden voyage is set for December 18, 2027. Disney has not said whether wristbands are part of its plans for that ship.
For now, Treasure guests on this one sailing get to try it. Disney has only confirmed the test for this cruise, so anyone booked on a later sailing should plan on finding their Key to the World cards outside the stateroom door unless the cruise line says otherwise.
