Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground has unveiled a pair of updates that give guests even more reasons to spend a full day at one of Walt Disney World’s most distinctive resorts. An expanded Meadow Swimmin’ Pool area and a refreshed Reception Outpost have both debuted, adding modern comforts while preserving the rustic charm that has defined the resort for more than 50 years.
A Bigger Meadow Swimmin’ Pool
The biggest change is at the Meadow Swimmin’ Pool, where Disney has added a brand-new zero-entry pool alongside the existing one. The addition, paired with extra deck space, effectively doubles the room available for guests to cool off and spread out on busy afternoons. The original pool remains open as well, including its popular 67-foot corkscrew waterslide, so families now have far more space to enjoy a sunny resort day.
The expansion is part of a larger project at the Meadows Recreation Area, with future phases reportedly set to bring a tennis court and two pickleball courts to the resort. It is a meaningful upgrade for a resort that has always leaned into outdoor recreation, and it arrives as Walt Disney World continues to invest in its water and recreation offerings. A Nostalgic Nod To River Country
Longtime Disney fans will especially appreciate a subtle tribute tucked into the new pool area. Guests will find an old-fashioned barrel carriage featuring Mickey Mouse dressed in his camping gear, serving as a nostalgic nod to River Country, Walt Disney World’s very first water park. River Country opened in 1976 along the shores of Bay Lake, right next door to Fort Wilderness, and operated until 2001 before its site eventually made way for the upcoming Disney Lakeshore Lodge. The display even includes storytelling touches like faux dirt, horseshoe prints, and wheel tracks, as though the cart was only recently rolled into place.
Inside the Reception Outpost, a refreshed lobby is designed to make check-in feel brighter and more personal, giving cast members additional space to help families settle in. New artwork adds a playful layer of Disney storytelling to the entry area, with Mickey Mouse and friends shown enjoying a relaxing day on the water above the fireplace. Three additional scenes feature Huey, Dewey, and Louie taking part in classic Fort Wilderness activities like camping, fishing, and archery.
