A 25-year-old DoorDash driver is facing a felony charge after Orange County deputies say he pointed a handgun at a Walt Disney World bus driver on Monday night, then drove on to Disney’s Port Orleans Resort to drop off a food order.
David Charlot of Kissimmee was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a firearm. He is being held on a $10,000 bond. Deputies say a camera on board the Disney bus caught it on video.
It Started With A Honk At A Green Light
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office got the call around 9 p.m. on Monday, October 5. A witness told deputies a white Jeep had stopped at a green light on East Buena Vista Drive near Bonnet Creek Parkway, with a Disney bus sitting behind it. When the Jeep did not move, the bus driver honked and pulled closer.
According to the arrest affidavit, the driver of the Jeep got out, walked up to the bus and then went back to his vehicle. He reached into the center console, pulled out a black semi-automatic pistol and pointed it directly at the bus driver before pulling away.
The 911 caller also told deputies where the Jeep was headed next: Port Orleans.
Deputies Found The Jeep Parked At The Resort Lobby
When deputies reached the resort, they found the white Jeep parked near the lobby with nobody inside. A short time later, Charlot walked up to one of the deputies and explained that he was using the Jeep to make a DoorDash delivery.
Charlot told deputies he did have a handgun in the vehicle, but he denied pointing it at anyone or having any interaction with the bus driver. The affidavit sums up his account in one line: “He was just delivering food.”
The Bus Camera Told A Different Story
Deputies then pulled the footage from the camera on board the Disney bus. According to the affidavit, the video shows Charlot pointing a black handgun at the bus driver before leaving the area. Deputies arrested him after reviewing the video.
No injuries were reported. The reports do not say whether any guests were riding the bus at the time, which park or resort route it was running, or which side of Port Orleans, French Quarter or Riverside, the delivery was headed to.
What Happens Next
Charlot’s case now moves through the Orange County court system. An arrest is not a conviction, and the charge is an allegation until it is proven in court.
It is not the first time this year a Disney bus has made news for the wrong reasons. Back in July, a Walt Disney World bus appeared to catch fire as its suppression system activated.
